MFA in Contemporary Visual Art

Graduate Studies

Dar al-Kalima University

Program Overview

The MFA in Contemporary Visual Art is an advanced two-year program that integrates artistic practice with critical theoretical and historical inquiry. It offers an in-depth exploration of contemporary art theories, histories, and discourses, emphasizing independent research-based art practices that enable students to create artworks grounded in critical analysis.

The program prepares graduates for professional careers as independent artists, art educators, and cultural practitioners, while also offering the opportunity to pursue doctoral studies in art, visual culture, and related fields.

The curriculum includes seminars, courses, group critique sessions, alongside opportunities to participate in exhibitions and other art platforms. It also incorporates field visits to Palestinian galleries, art collections, and local architectural and heritage sites, which fosters knowledge of Palestinian cultural history and connects art practices to lived experiences.

The MFA in Contemporary Visual Art contributes to preserving collective memory and identity, especially amidst the continued challenges the Palestinian people face, making art practice function as a form of creative expression and a tool of documentation and critical engagement.
